A corona inspection was performed on the outdoor bus for Zone substations.
Items were identified just after commissioning that required replacement of new assets while still under EPCM warranty periods.
Other corona inspections identified failing overhead disk insulators on transmission towers, through non evasive methods well before physical failure and loss of feeder supply and customer minutes lost.
Corona inspection by helicopter of significant transmission towers has now become normal practice with many progressive utilities and railways. |
